Last updated: 17 July 2026. These terms explain how Holland Automotive accepts, diagnoses, services and repairs vehicles. Nothing in these terms removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
1. Who these terms apply to
These terms apply whenever you ask Holland Automotive to inspect, diagnose, service, repair, store or otherwise work on a vehicle, or to supply parts. They apply together with the job card, quote, estimate, invoice and any written variation agreed with you.
By leaving a vehicle with us, approving work, signing or submitting our onboarding form, or asking us to order parts, you confirm that you accept these terms and are authorised by the vehicle owner to give the instructions.
2. Quotes, estimates and diagnostic work
- Quote: a fixed offer for the stated work based on the information and vehicle condition reasonably available when it is issued. A quote is valid for 21 days unless it says otherwise.
- Estimate: our best assessment of the likely cost. It is not fixed and may change when the vehicle is tested or dismantled, parts prices are confirmed, or hidden damage and related faults are found.
- Diagnostic or strip-down stage: time spent testing, scanning, road-testing or dismantling to identify a fault is chargeable work, even where the fault is intermittent or a final repair cannot yet be confirmed.
Parts availability, freight, supplier pricing and exchange rates can change. We will tell you before proceeding where that changes the agreed scope or price.
3. Your authority and additional work
You may set an additional-work approval limit on the job card or onboarding form. Unless a limit has been recorded, the default is that we contact you before carrying out work outside the agreed scope.
We will use the phone number, email address or communication method you supplied. If we cannot reach you, we may pause the job. We will not carry out optional additional repairs merely to keep the job moving.
Where a vehicle is unsafe to operate, we may stop work, isolate the vehicle or advise that it should not be driven. We will not knowingly release a vehicle for use in a way that would require us to breach the law.
4. Fault diagnosis
Diagnostic equipment and fault codes identify systems and test results; they do not automatically prove that a particular component has failed. Diagnosis may require mechanical testing, electrical testing, road testing, dismantling or further authorised time.
Our findings are based on the symptoms and vehicle condition present at the time. An intermittent fault may not be reproducible during the booking. We will explain any limits in the diagnosis and recommend the next sensible step.
5. Parts
We may recommend genuine, reputable aftermarket, remanufactured or used parts depending on availability, vehicle value and the option approved by you. The invoice will identify used parts where relevant.
Special-order, imported or non-returnable parts may require a deposit. If you cancel after we have incurred an unavoidable supplier or freight cost, you are responsible for that reasonable cost to the extent allowed by law.
We may decline to fit a customer-supplied part that appears unsafe, incorrect, poor quality or incompatible. Where we agree to fit one, we do not warrant the part itself. This does not remove any legal rights relating to the care and skill of our installation work.
Replaced parts will normally be disposed of. Ask before the work begins if you want an old part retained, except where it must be returned to a supplier as a core or warranty item.
6. WoF inspections and rechecks
A Warrant of Fitness inspection assesses the vehicle against the applicable NZTA in-service inspection requirements at the time of inspection. It is not a guarantee that the vehicle will remain fault-free or compliant for the full WoF period.
A failed inspection does not authorise repairs automatically. We will quote or obtain approval for repair work separately. Rechecks are subject to the current NZTA rules and the recheck period shown on the inspection documentation.
7. Road testing and vehicle access
You authorise our staff to start, move, lift and road-test the vehicle where reasonably necessary for inspection, diagnosis, repair verification, WoF work or workshop operations. Tell us before the booking about immobilisers, special starting procedures, vehicle modifications or restrictions on use.
8. Timing and delays
We give completion times in good faith. Parts delays, supplier errors, hidden faults, specialist work, seized or damaged components and events outside our reasonable control may extend the booking. We will update you when a material delay becomes known.
9. Payment and collection
Unless an approved account or third-party payment arrangement has been agreed in writing, full payment is due when the work is complete and before the vehicle is collected.
Accepted options may include EFTPOS, bank transfer, cash, Afterpay for eligible transactions, and approved MSD/Work and Income payments. Third-party payment services have their own eligibility and terms.
We may retain possession of the vehicle and supplied parts until amounts due for that work are paid, to the extent permitted by law. Reasonable debt-recovery costs may be charged where legally recoverable.
10. Storage and uncollected vehicles
Please collect the vehicle promptly after we advise that it is ready or that work has stopped. If it remains uncollected, a reasonable storage charge may apply after we give notice. Any sale or disposal of an uncollected vehicle or property will only occur through a lawful process and after the required notice.
11. Vehicle condition and personal property
Tell us about known damage, leaks, unsafe modifications, valuables or sensitive items in the vehicle. We take reasonable care while the vehicle is in our possession, but you should remove cash and unnecessary personal property before the booking.
We are not responsible for a pre-existing fault merely because it becomes apparent during inspection, lifting, testing or repair. If our work causes damage or fails to meet the standards required by law, your legal remedies remain available.
12. Warranty and consumer rights
Unless the invoice states a different express warranty for a particular part, our standard express warranty for new parts supplied by us and the associated workmanship is 12 months or 20,000 kilometres from completion, whichever occurs first. Manufacturer or supplier warranties may be longer.
This express warranty is additional to — and does not replace or limit — rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be excluded. Consumer services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill and other statutory guarantees may apply beyond an express warranty period.
Warranty does not cover unrelated faults, normal wear, misuse, collision damage, unauthorised modification, continued operation after a warning or overheating event, or failure of a customer-supplied component. We will assess each claim on its actual cause and your legal rights.
13. Business customers
Where services are acquired in trade for business purposes, any agreement to contract out of provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act or Fair Trading Act must be expressly recorded in writing and must satisfy the legal requirements for doing so. These terms alone do not automatically contract out of those Acts.
14. Privacy
We collect and use personal and vehicle information to manage bookings, provide services, communicate approvals, meet legal and regulatory obligations, arrange parts or third-party payments, and maintain workshop records. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
15. Concerns and disputes
Tell us promptly if you believe there is a problem with our work. Give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect the vehicle and, where appropriate, remedy the issue. We aim to resolve concerns directly and fairly without affecting either party’s legal rights.
16. Changes and governing law
The version accepted for a job is the version current when the work was authorised, unless a later variation is agreed. These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
